Questions about startup directories

What counts as a dofollow directory?

One whose outbound link to your site carries no rel="nofollow" or rel="sponsored" attribute, so search engines pass link equity through it. Roughly six in ten of the directories here are dofollow. The rest are still worth a listing for referral traffic and for being a page an AI answer engine can read, but they will not move your domain rating.

Are these directories free?

Most are. Every row is labelled free, freemium, or paid, and the filter above narrows the list to the ones that cost nothing. Freemium usually means a free listing that gets reviewed slowly, with a paid option to skip the queue.

How is the domain rating measured?

Domain rating is Ahrefs' 0 to 100 score for how strong a site's backlink profile is. It is a third-party measure, not ours, and we record the date each one was checked. Treat it as a rough ordering rather than a precise value.

Do you check that these directories are still alive?

Yes. Dead directories are marked and drop out of the catalog, so the list does not accumulate links to sites that stopped accepting submissions years ago. That is most of the work in keeping a list like this useful.

Should I submit to all of them?

No. Between 30 and 60 well chosen directories captures almost all of the available value, and the on-topic ones in your category matter far more than the count. Past that you are mostly adding listings that are never crawled and never send a visitor.

Can you submit for me?

Yes, that is what CiteLaunch sells. We submit by hand, on-topic directories first, track every listing from sent to live, and re-check the backlink afterwards so a link that gets removed shows up rather than being quietly counted.
